      IB Physics Terminology

      This glossary follows the chapter structure of the IB Physics Guide for first assessment in 2025. It includes core syllabus terminology and additional terms needed to understand formal IB Physics teaching materials. The definitions are written for the IB course context while preserving physical and mathematical accuracy.

      Pronunciation conventions

      • UK pronunciations use broad phonemic transcription based on General British.
      • US pronunciations use broad phonemic transcription based on General American.
      • Each entry gives one recommended pronunciation. Some terms also have other accepted regional or individual variants.
      • Multi-word terms are transcribed transparently for vocabulary learning. Stress, weak forms and connected speech may vary in complete sentences.
